green expo jewellery

my cast elements, wanted to make a bangle however after casting the elements had a very porous texture that looks nice however will be painfull to the wearer.I decided to still use the elements but to put it over a backing so it doesnt hurt the wearer.I was difficult to solder with it moving all the time so i decided to rivet and then solder as i was doming the cuff so i could push down the braches that stick up then solder them flat.

Earrings1
I used the flower images as vetkat portrayed them but I interpreted them in my own way.I wanted to use wax impression technique to use thin wax sheet wish i will warm up by running the wax under warm water to soften it.The flowers were pierced out of 1mm brass plate, this was the plate used to push the wax through.Marlene had given me some dental wax which worked quite well.I then took my time cleaning up the wax flowers before I could invest them. After casting I cleaned my elements and chose the best one to make a mould off.

I tried to link the jewellery with my Btech work so I decided to make them into sets of jewellery that could be worn as bridal jewellery with eastern and western influences.I used engraving techniques to create that bright-cut finish.I engraved the veins of the petals.

Earrings2

with this pair I set rubies which also gives a eastern touch, the colour red is very much associated with love and marriage in Hindu traditions
 Earrings3

I tried making different variations for the exhibition because everyone has different stles and taste in jewellery,so i tried making stuff that would sell but also that is intresting and relates to my btech. I blackend  these earrings to create a contrast, that alone makes the earring so different from the other pairs

Bracelet
This I designed to match the earrings, set rubies and engraved.bent the flowers in a curve so that they sat in the wrist comfortably
Lizzard studs

thi was an image that was so adorable and had potencial to be transformed into a piece of jewellery.I also made these by wax impressions and engraved scaley lines to add texture.

lizzard bracelet

I made this bracelet to match the lizzard earrings so that they make up little sets of jewellery.

green

Yesterday I went shopping around for gift boxes for the wedding rings that I made and came across something very beautiful that gave me an idea of making someting for the Artisan Green exhibition. These are table decorations that I picked up at a Chinese shop on west street.

These are plastic decorations which are perfect for casting, they have glitter on them which wil give beautiful texture to the piece when cast

These were two out of many designs that they had, however when I thought about using them for the green exhibition these two designs seemed to work best because they were related to nature, their form and structure is just so beautiful.

Just some sketches of what I would like to make with the cast elements,a bangle,a neckpiece and earrings

private work-wedding rings

I was offered to design a pair of wedding rings for a couple that got registered 4years ago and now they are going to have a small temple wedding in mid-november.they wanted the rings in 18ct yellow gold and was told I could add on some silver to get a contrast. They wanted simple rings for everyday wear and these are the rings I was busy making this week.

anglo gold prototypes - florence

vetkat jewellery

I decided that I would do wax impressions because for the previous exhibition I used the same technique and I enjoyed working in wax.The pieces were not flat,It made the piece look much more interesting as opposed to piercing out from flat plate.

I had pierced out the patterns I like into brass plate.....these plates we used previously for embossing in making prints for the exhibition.Although it was the same patterns, the pieces I designed are very different from the pieces I made last year.

Vetkat rekopstaan

For the vetkat exhibition ive been designing pieces of jewellery that includes or is inspired by Vetkat's artwork.I've been looking at the flowers he uses and how he belives the flower represents the woman.I designed a few pieces that includes earrings, bracelets and pendants,I want to make sets of jewellery that could be sold individually or as a set.
