Bridal head piece

I,ve been thinking of a way that I could fuse eastern and western bridal jewellery.I sort off got an idea of making a head piece can be used by a eastern bride but using a form of head decoration from the western culture.Ive been looking at some references by Alien bear ,they do the eastern/western fusion quite well.

mendhi inspired necklace

I arranged the wax elements to see how they will be put together.I modified the elements whilst in its wax form because its alot easier to work with as opposed to casting and piercing them in silver.

These are my elements after casting and cleaning.I soldered three jumprings on each element so that I could string the elements along with swarovski crystals.

I had some trouble attaching the beads with the elements.I re-thread them like four times because the elements were leaning forward so I played around with the number and placement of beads until it set the way I wanted it to set.

Looking at the overall finish of the piece I realise that I could of made my own silver dangle beads instead of buying them,so that it lends itself to the piece.

The catch works quite well with the piece.I used the mendhi elements to create the catch so that the back of the necklace is just as interesting as the front.

Our wedding ring

I made up the band, soldered and polished the ring.I drilled holes and used a ball bur to create the seat for the stones and pave' set the stones.I engraved around stones to make it look much more attractive.

My boyfriends mum told me to use some gold in my ring, she belives that gold is very neccassary in a wedding ring.Im not a fan off yellow gold so i used some of the rose gold my grand-mum gave me to make side bands to compliment my ring.
well she belives that gold represents purity and wealth,In the past gold was a form off
dowry for a hindu bride.although the pieces did contain precious gemstones but the gold was the main focus

Our wedding rings

I made the inner sleeve and side bands out of silver and the inner sleeve with rose gold,I intially wanted to make the inner band spin but Visham is a diesel mechanic and to get grease stuck inside would ruin the concept of the spinning ring.

Our wedding rings

Visham was quite excited about me making his wedding ring, infact in our 9 years of dating and my 4years of studing jewellery design and manufacture, I havnt really made him a piece off jewellery. We looked at magazines and online images of rings he sort off liked. He likes something simple yet different.I want to use the stone and the remaining rose gold that was given to me by my grandmother for vish's ring so that we bout have family inheritance with us and is sentimental value.

I wanted to set the stones on a plain 7cm wide band in such a way that had some significance to me rather than just setting them just to look pretty.I thought about having the stones set in a zig-zagging rythum which actually is Visham's inital that joins continuosly.

Our wedding rings

I wanted to use the rubies in my ring and use the rose gold for Vishams ring.I prefered to use sterling silver for my ring maybe with seperate side bands.

This is a piece of a neckpiece that belonged to my grandmother, she divided the necklace into 3 pieces and gave it to her 3 grand-daughters.It is about 60 years old.The piece given to me weighed  36g in rose gold and consisted of 16 pave' set rubies. She had given this to me so that i could melt and make my wedding jewellery.
